  • BCIS (Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services): The Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, or the BCIS, was created Under the Homeland Security Act of 2002. The BCIS was short-lived, however, and in 2004, the BCIS underwent a name change and a rebranding.

  • DHS (Department of Homeland Security): The United States Department of Homeland Security, also commonly referred to as DHS or “homeland security,” was formed in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

  • USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services): The USCIS, or the United States Citizen and Immigration Service, is a department within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The USCIS consists of approximately 15,000 employees and 250 field offices around the world.
